2011 Mourne Way Marathon Final Information

Jun, 09, 2011

We hope all your training and preparation for the Mourne Way events on 11 June 2011 is coming along well. We have a few announcements to make in relation to ALL events. It is IMPORTANT that you read all the information contained in this email.

Kit requirements listed on the website (www.mournewaymarathon.com) – all kit is recommended (not mandatory) – please use common sense when preparing for the event. We are not here to hold you hand through this event and would ask that no one sacrifices kit for a faster time. There is also a lot of other information contained on the website – take time to read through it.

Feed stations - We will have water, bananas and fruit cake at the following locations – Trassey Track (8 miles), Ott Car Park (13 miles), Hen Track (17 miles), Leitrim Lodge (20 miles), Yellow Water (23 miles). For Ultra runners these feed stations will also be in situ on the way out at 6 miles, 9 miles, 13 miles and18 miles. Ultra runners will also receive a drop box at registration – you can put food, gels, spare socks, etc in this and it will be transported to the halfway point for you and back to the finish at the end of the event.

We will have water available in cups and large canisters at these points and we have decided not to give out bottles. Competitors normally carry a bottle for a period of time whilst drinking out of it then discard it – we cannot allow this in this event as littering on the trail cannot and will not be tolerated. If you lift a cup please drop it soon after drinking from it. We do not want plastic cups littered all over the mountainside.

Even though the recent weather has been inclement sunscreen would be advisable. We would also advise that midge repellent is brought if you are intending on hanging about Kilbroney Park after the event. There will be a 400 meter zip slide in place in Kilbroney Park on Saturday and everyone can have a go on it if they wish at the end of the event – a fee is payable which is for a local charity.

Car pooling - we have been inundated with entries over the last week or so and would ask as many folk to car pool if possible. PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY ON THE GRASSY AREA THAT IS BEING USED FOR PARKING AT KILBRONEY PARK.

The team from Surf Mountain (www.surfmountain.com) will have a shop open at the registration area for any last minute supplies – if you have any specific requests for kit or product contact the shop in Belfast and ask them to bring it with them to the event. We will also have a confectionary shop and coffee facilities at the start / finish area.

Goodie bags (all competitors) and all other event souvenirs will be given out at the end of the event.

Competitors rubbish and leave no trace policy - Please take all the rubbish you create (gel/bar/sweet wrappers etc) with you to the finish line or drop it in the bags provided at the Water Stations. We cannot tolerate any littering on the mountain whatsoever and your cooperation would be greatly appreciated in this matter.

Post event banter will be in the Kilbroney Bar, Rostrevor from early evening until the lights go out! There is a FREE HALF PINT for everyone who crosses the finish line in the Kilbroney Bar.

Hopefully that is all for now and we look forward to seeing all of you on race day. Once again please allow plenty of time for getting to Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor.

Safe journey to everyone.

Cheers, All the team at 26 Extreme.
