Causeway Coast Marathon 2019

The Beaches Bays And Cliffs Marathon

ENTRIES OPENING 30th November @ 9am!

The 2019 Causeway Coast Marathon will take place on Saturday 28th September 2019. Having established itself as one of the most scenic marathons in the world the 2019 event is set to attract participants from across the globe that will come to compete alongside fellow runners on this fantastic route.

With the addition of the Ultra Marathon distance (60km) in 2010 there is now an event for everyone from the serious Ultra Runner to the 10k specialists on the day of the event. In addition to the Ultra and 10km distances there are also Marathon and Half Marathon options. There is also a Challenge Walk along the 26 mile route of the Causeway Coast Marathon for those avid walkers out there, which is being hosted by Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke Association and which MUST be entered separately.

All Causeway Coast events will be fully waymarked and will follow the paths, tracks, beaches and coastline of the Causeway Coast Way - probably one of the most spectacular coastlines in the whole world. The entire route passes through magnificent coastline scenery with fine views of wide bays, sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and offshore rocks, all of which characterise the Causeway Coast, making its beauty and uniqueness world famous. All events will run through the world famous Giants Causeway with the Ultra and Marathon events passing close to the actual Giants Causeway stones.

As with all 26 Extreme events, there will be a high level of support and feed stations en route. Participants in all events will be chipped timed by our timing partner and we will provide split times and finish times for all participants after the event.

Please note that this section will be added to as questions are asked by competitors.

1) How difficult is each event?

Without us knowing your level of fitness the answer to this question is difficult but we would say that unless you have put in the training and have the miles in your legs please do not enter a distance option that you know will be out of your league. We have five distance options – choose carefully!

2) Do you have any recommended kit for the event?

Running shoes (trail runners recommended or ordinary runners if preferred) / Walking Boots, Hydration pack or water bottle, Energy snacks, Windproof top, Hat or Buff.  Participants must be aware that weather conditions along the coastline can change and deteriorate rapidly and should bring appropiate clothing to keep them warm in any adverse weather. It is also essential that all competitors undertake a training programme in the months leading up to this event to ensure the day is as memorable as possible.  Your feet might get wet, so prepare for all eventualities.

3) Where is the parking area for the event?

All competitors MUST report to Portballintrae Village Hall for registration, kit check, and race briefing. Parking is very sparse in this area - there are no large car parks, and the use of a field at this time of year can be impossible due to ground conditions.  For this reason, we ask competitors to please give themselves plenty of time, and park in the town, legally, not blocking driveways and abiding by the directions of the traffic management signage.
With the exception of the Marathon Runners and Walkers all competitors will be transported to the appropiate start location for their event by bus. For those who are being guided by GPS the postcode for Portballintrae is BT57 8RT

4) Where is the event registration area?

Registration for all events will take place in Portballintrae Village Hall. There will be important welcome and safety briefings for all competitors that will cover safety, the latest weather forecast, logistical considerations and other important information.

Ultra Marathon Checkpoints (mile 6, 13, 20, 26, 32)Marathon and Challenge Walk Checkpoints (mile 6, 13, 19), Half Marathon Checkpoints (mile 6) 10km (@5km).  There is usually cake, water (in cups), sweets, and a nut based savoury item on each feed station.

8) Where is the best place for my family to see me taking part?

Family and friends are more than welcome to come along to this event to show support. Supporters also add an atmosphere and additional energy to the experience for all the other participants and the crew. The best place for your supporters is at the run into the finish in Portballintrae as there will be a festival type atmosphere in the village that day.
