Back for 2017 - Coast to Coast Mountain Race & Mountain Walk
Coast 2 Coast Mountain Race:
The Coast 2 Coast Mountain Stage is an individual event, happening on Sunday the 21st May. So if cycling and kayaking over 270km across Ireland isn’t for you but you would like to compete or just take part in the final stage of this gruelling event then look no further. You will start the mountain race at the same location the Coast 2 Coast Multi Sport competitors make the transition from bike to Run in Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor and follow the same route as them to the finish line in Newcastle. In fact we are timing it so you will be running with the majority of them. With over 32km of mountain roads, forest tracks, open mountain trails and a summit of Northern Irelands Highest peak, Slieve Donard, to navigate, this isn’t a challenge for the fait of heart.
Mountain Run: The Second start at 11am will be for the runners. Both events will have a mass start and both events will share the course with the Multi Sport Coast to Coasters in their final push to completing their journey across Ireland. On reaching the end of the Mountain Race you will cross the same finish line as the Multi Sport event with drinks, food and a well-earned medal waiting for you.
Support and Check Points: In the 32km there will be a total of 7 x 26 Extreme Crew Checkpoints where you will have first aid and race info.
Food, water and mandatory kit: The Mountain Walk and Run are 100% self-supported. You MUST carry all food, water and mandatory clothing you require for the duration of the event. At registration you may be selected for a random kit check. One of our event medics will stop all runners at the start of the Trassey track and check they have a minimum of 1ltr of water al all mandatory equipment to allow them to proceed. Please note: it is strictly prohibited to “stash” supplies on the mountain pre-race. Any such items found will be treated as rubbish, removed and disposed of appropriately.
Mandatory kit: all competitors will be expected to carry suitable equipment to take part in this race. There will be random kit checks at the start line. The following mandatory:
- Mountain/trail specific runners or walking boots
- Full water proof cover
- Hat and gloves even if the weathers good
- Sufficient water/fluid and food
- Extra emergency food
- Mobile phone with credit
- Space blanket
- Basic first aid kit (plasters, bandage, alcohol wipes etc)
- Small back pack or waist pack to carry it in.
Way Marking: There is no need to be able to navigate. The entire course will be marked with plastic arrows, tape and bamboo canes, strobe lights and approximately thirty 26 Extreme event crew.
Timing: this event will be chip time.

Please note: in an effort to reduce the cost of entry, there will be no transport to and from the start and finish of the event. It is every participants/competitors responsibility to find their way to the start line on time.
Pack collection location: Packs will be made available from the Cloughmore Centre in the Main Car Park in Kilbroney Park beside the Mountain Bike trail head.

1) Do you have any recommended kit for the event?
RUN: Make sure you have good trail running gear with full body cover for the Mountain Stage you’ll also need a bag to carry mandatory kit.
2) Is there anything sent to me in the post before the event?
No, all information and items to include race numbers, timing chip and other information associated with the event will be given to you upon registration on the day of the event.
3) Can I raise money for Charity?
Yes, we have no problem with participants raising money for charities and other worthwhile causes. We have a series of Charity partners and if you are yet undecided as to what charity you will raise money for please see click here for our associated Charity Partners.
4) Do you have any Rules that I have to adhere to?
The event is open to everyone of 18 years of age and over. Participants must ensure they have appropriate running accessories, mountain wear, footwear, clothing and have access to water and energy food whilst and support crew whilst competing. All participants must refer to the recommended kit list. All participants must follow the prescribed course & adhere to the spirit of the event by showing courtesy to other participants, dropping no litter – we operate a “Leave No Trace” Policy and promote the “country code” Mandatory kit IS mandatory for all stages of the event. Vehicles will also have mandatory equipment that will need to be carried at all times. You must adhere to cut off times. You must adhere to the rules of the road.
