Event Route - Course:

Recent flooding that struck the Mournes and submerged ½ of Newcastle had a devastating impact on many of the bridges and riverside paths in Tollymore. As a result the course will be slightly different from previous years as all the wooden bridges have been washed away. We are currently mapping and agreeing an amended course with detail to be uploaded to the event page by the middle of October. The course will be similar to past years with mostly gravel fire road and small sections of single track.

On course support:

The course will be clearly marked with signage and distance markers. 26 Extreme staff on the course to assist you at various points on the course. Paramedics and first aiders on the course at all times. Roving 4x4 vehicle support should you need assistance or to come off the course. Hands free drinking water available Please be aware that there will be no food or snacks provided on the course. Please note that you will be required to carry your own drinking cup or water bottle to refill. There will be no cups available at this event. We cannot offer a key holding facility at this time, nor can we hold or store equipment, we advise all runners to carry a small pack with their items held inside. Please note, if you, or a member of your household are displaying any symptoms, or have received a positive Covid test within 10 days of the event, please do not attend

FAQ

1) How difficult is each event?

Without us knowing your level of fitness the answer to this question is difficult but we would say that unless you have put in the training and have the miles in your legs please do not enter a distance option that you know will be out of your league. Tollymore is a particularly challenging event with many steep climbs and descents. We have five distance options – choose carefully!

2) Do you have any recommended kit for the event?

Running shoes / Walking Boots, Hydration pack, cup or water bottle, Energy snacks, Windproof top, Hat or Buff. Participants must be aware that weather conditions along the coastline can change and deteriorate rapidly and should bring appropriate clothing to keep them warm in any adverse weather. It is also essential that all competitors undertake a training programme in the months leading up to this event to ensure the day is as memorable as possible. Your feet might get wet, so prepare for all eventualities.

3) Where is the parking area for the event? There will be free parking in the main Tollymore car park. Follow signage on your way in.

4) Where is the event registration area?

Pack collection will be available on the day from 7am.  Final information will be sent 72 hours before event day and will include the finer details.

5) What’s included in my entry fee?

Professionally organised event by 26 Extreme, Public Liability insurance, , electronic timing system, Race number, Course marking, manned check points, hydration stations, parking ,Buff & Finishers Medal.

6) Is there anything sent to me in the post before the event?

In the weeks leading to the event you will receive all the information you require in the post. There will be no in the day registration – name changes and distance changes will be allowed.

7) Are there any feed / hydration stations?

There will be a touch free water station roughly every 5k in the course. It is your responsibility to carry a means to collect water in the form of a collapsible drinks cup or water bottle for example. There will be some items on the course, and our team will assist you to access them. At the finish line, the items at the finish line will be individually packed and you can take them with you.

8) Where is the best place for my family to see me taking part?

We are actively requesting that only participants arrive to the event, and would ask that you discourage spectators from attending, to reduce numbers at the event area and ensure social distancing, and to keep all participants and members of the public safe.

9) Can I raise money for Charity?

Yes, we have no problem with participants raising money for charities and other worthwhile causes. If you haven’t yet signed up with a charity please consider Cancer Focus NI. They are once again our chosen charity and a very worthy cause.

10) Do you have any Rules that I have to adhere to?

The event is open to runners, and walkers of 18 years of age and over. Participants must ensure they have appropriate footwear, clothing and have access to water and energy food whilst competing. All participants must refer to the recommended kit list. All participants must follow the prescribed course & adhere to the spirit of the event by showing courtesy to other trail users, dropping no litter – we operate a Leave No Trace Policy. If you drop your rubbish you WILL be disqualified. Leaving gates as found and offering fellow runners who are injured, exhausted or confused, help and support.

In addition there will be a new bolt on set of Social Distancing rules to keep everyone safe on the race course. This will be posted to you in the lead up to the event and made available online. It is very important that you read them carefully and help us with the return to events.
