We are delighted to announce the return of the Newry & Mourne Women’s Mini Marathon. The 2022 event will take place at the end of March just as the Mourne Mountains are springing into life.

Hosted at Kilbroney Park in quiet Village of Rostrevor this event is open to anyone, from seasoned runners to the newcomers and charity walkers.

We welcome all abilities to come and share in the fantastic and unique experience.

The Mourne area which the route passes through is beautiful as is the finish area in Kilbroney park.

As this is a road event we will close the road for the start of the event and have limited local access traffic once underway to allow you to relax and enjoy your experience in safety.

The road surface is also good quality with tarmac in its length.

Pack Collection and busses

On the day of the event you will head to Kilbroney park and follow the signage to the race village, pack collection and finish line. Once you kitted out with race number and buff, we will allocate you a seat on a bus and transport you to the start line 10km away. There will be a long convoy of busses heading off at the same time and is really exciting to be part of. You’ll be dropped off at the start location and after a short briefing and worm up the gun will fire and the race will be under way.

Course Detail

The race starts just past Leitrim Lodge at the foot of Rocky Mountain, before passing Santa’s Cottage at 3km and 64m elevation gain. From here the course descends 5km passing Yellow Water, a water station at the 5km point with 170m elevation loss. The Course then turns into Kilbroney Park with a short steep climb 370m in length before the final descent to the finish line. As you will see from the route map, this course is primarily downhill with only 174m ascent v 274m Descent.

Finding your way

This event is very easy to navigate. There are only 5 turns in total in its length and all will be very well marked and marshaled.

Safety on the course.

Like all 26 Extreme events, the course has been designed with your safety and wellbeing as top priority. We will have a dedicated traffic management company looking after the road closure and safety along with a private blue light ambulance service taking care of any medical needs through the day. We will have a team of qualified and experienced 26 Extreme outdoor events crew lead by our Company Race Director on the course and finally the finish line crew to welcome you home in style across the finish line with a medal to take home to remember your accomplishment.
