THE WALL • ADVENTURE DUATHLON

Staged from the Silent Valley in the heart of the Mourne Mountains, the Wall Adventure Duathlon will take you on a tour of the Mourne Mountains like no other. Run in idyllic nature trails in the Silent Valley to start off, ride the ups and downs of the bike loop and run through the heart of the Mournes to finish.

The Stages

Event Opens for Pack Collection: – 7:30am

Race Starts: – 9am

Trail Run – 3km

The first run will take place within the Silent Valley Nature park on a series of off road trails. running in a loop you will arrive back at transition for the bike stage after 3km. The trail is a mix of gravel path and single track gravel with potentially wet and muddy sections. Trail shoes are advised. This is a beautiful run with epic views across the Silent Vally and surrounding area.

Road Cycle – 45km

Starting at the Silent Valley you will exit onto the Head road and complete the 45km course in an anticlockwise direction. You will head to the coast and onto Newcastle before ascending into the Mountains passing Meelmore, Spelga and Attical along the way. This is a hilly course and is guaranteed to get the blood pumping. Road bikes are ideal for this event as road surfaces area generally good and fast. Hybrid and mountain bikes have been used in the past by some competitors. Please note that all bikes must be road worthy and fitted with a good quality front white and rear red flashing light. regardless of conditions on the day lights must be fitted and turned on. there will also be random bike checks on the day.

Road / Trail Run – 11km

The final run will take you take you up the Mourne Wall to the summit of Slieve Binnian, one of the Mourne 700s, before descending to BenCrom Dam then onto the final tarmac run to the finish. Awesome views and stunning trail running waits for competitors. Trail shoes are once again recommended and there will be a mandatory equipment list including full waterproof clothing, hat, gloves, space blanket, food, water, whistle small first aid kit and something to carry it all in.

 

ROUTES

All routes will be fully waymarked – therefore navigation skills will not be a requirement for this event. You will however need to pay close attention to the event markings and we do encourage people to have an understanding of the course prior to the start.

Entry Fee will be £65 and includes:

Parking in Silent Valley (£4.50), Bespoke Event Buff, Electronic Chip Timing, support station at transition area, bike racks and transition point, Finishers Medal, Race Prizes, Marshals at strategic points, Race Safety Cover, paramedics, Permissions and access agreements to some fantastic terrain to race on and much more.

Mourne Mountains Brewery was founded in 2015, situated in the foothills of the beautiful Mourne Mountains. At our 16HL brewery in Warrenpoint we brew a diverse range of beers from fruited sours to imperial pastry stouts and highly-hopped IPAs – all vegan friendly! On our traditional brewhouse we use the finest whole leaf hops from around the world and the highest quality brewing malt but the ingredient we treasure the most is our water supply. Originating in the high Mournes, it is beautifully soft and perfect for brewing a wide variety of beer styles.
